Elle J. Wilson is a British artist known for her delightfully quirky sense of humor as applied to our animal friends. She has an uncanny ability to capture personality! In her own words she describes her work - I began painting in Oils at the age of 8, painting the ancient yellow roses and water lilies on the mansion house estate where I grew up. At the age of 14 I began painting dog and cat portraits for teachers at school as part of a mini business venture and it just carried on from there. Growing up in the country, I spent a lot of time with horses which set my sight on becoming a horse vet, but A-level physics, chemistry and biology proved too much study time when I had three ponies of my own to support and look after. I then switched to Art and Psychology which seemed more appropriate. I did a Foundation Art course in Farnham in Surrey and then somehow in the end gained a First Class Honours Degree in Theatre Set and Costume Design. I moved near to London in the hope of getting a foot on the ladder into working in films, I did one job on a film and it put me off. The accountants took me under their wing and found me a job working for a multimedia/corporate business where I spent a lot of time learning to use video equipment and computers and set the foundations for me starting my own business.
To me, my work represents the beauty in imperfection, the good and the bad, a little bit cheeky and a sense of fun and sadness. I like to hold on to a sense of innocence which is so rapidly destroyed in this volatile world we live in. As for the hounds well this is one of those ethereal paths I have been destined to follow. I do not know where the style came from or why, but when I paint them it just feels right. Of course I am absolutely thrilled with the fantastic comments I receive from people about my work and the real wonderful thing of it all is having new doors open up to me and introduced me to a whole new world. Being involved with the Charities that endeavour to save and rescue the lives of unfortunate dogs, even though what I do plays a small part, it is still so warming to know that my little pictures are enjoyed and help in the little way they do.
